Weekend Guide: Mother’s Day Events in Washington DC and Maryland
Make this Mother’s Day Extra Special Brunch a Spa Package
Enjoy a lazy afternoon as you indulge in a wonderful selection of Black Ankle wines accompanied by the perfect complement of appetizers. Enjoy Mother’s Day in Maryland this year with the one(s) you love, great food, wine, and fun for the entire family. As a special treat for mom, the O’Boyce family will lead a one hour kids’ tour of the farm. We’ll tromp through the vineyard to check the vines’ development, hunt for rocks and flowers, and say hello to Black Ankle’s cows and chickens. Kids should wear sturdy shoes, clothes that can get dirty, and must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Moms can relax as kids get good and tired on the farm. Seatings for the wine and appetizer flight will be spread throughout the day. Kids’ tours will begin at 1:00 and 3:00 and last approximately one hour. Wine and appetizer flight: $35 Kids tour: Free Be sure to visit Black Ankle Vineyards for more info Advance reservations are highly recommended.
Mother’s Day Brunch in DC
DC Design House
The opening tour of a 19th-century Georgetown rectory transformed in 40 days by top D.C. interior designers. Why: Ticket sales benefit the Children’s National Medical Center. When: Sat.-May 10. Tues.-Fri., 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Sat., 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun., 1-5 p.m. Where: 3238 O St. NW, b/t Potomac St. & Wisconsin Ave.
If you’re in the mood for pancakes: Art Smith’s dinner-plate-size pancakes at Art and Soul (415 New Jersey Ave., NW; 202-393-7777) have a ladies-who-lunch aura—they’re ultra-thin, lemon-scented, and topped with honey and a spoonful of mascarpone butter—but are satisfying and not too sweet.
Brunch with a twist: The late-morning meal at Poste (555 Eighth St., NW; 202-783-6060) is full of surprises: breezy, herb-infused cocktails, a buttery Reuben with duck pastrami, softly scrambled eggs with salmon and crème fraîche. Our favorite might be the Eggs Hussarde, a mess of poached eggs, bacon, and potato skins gussied up with marchand de vin sauce.
Mommy Got to Spa
After a long day with the kids, I often find myself in need of a mommy mani/pedi. If my feet were a nursery rhyme, this little piggy would get stubbed, this little piggy would be crammed into my favorite high heels (one can only walk in them and carrry a kid but for so long), and this little piggy would squeal, “Oooooh, Ooooh, Ooooh”.
Here are my top two spa and wellness centers that take the concept of soaking my feet to a whole new dimenstion:
1.) The Sole Door at The Still Point, 7009 Carroll Avenue, lower level, Takoma Park (301-920-0801 or stillpointmindandbody.com).
2.) Erwin Gomez Salon & Spa, 1519 Wisconsin Avenue NW, between P and Q Streets (202-333-7290).

I’m going to have to check these places out. I so need a mani/padi.
I did not know about some of these places, glad you shared. I love Erwin he is so sweet and full of good energy. I took a few photo ops with him last night and blog post is soon to follow! I have yet to go to the salon myself and I think I will make this a priority.
What do you say about making an event out of a day at the EG spa?
Mother’s Day plans have shifted so I’m going to be creative
Happy Mother’s day to you in advance.
You know ERWIN?????
I need to see those pics right away Nakeva. Is there anywhere you’re not? I just love this salon and wouldn’t mind an intro the the man behind this exquisite spa *nudge*
I think that would be the perfect event location for our DMV Moms Night Out.
