How to do nothing at work and still get paid

Submitted by thecocktailcafe on Friday, 6 March 20095 Comments

working mom with kids How to do nothing at work and still get paidNow that I’m officially a stay at home mom (SAHM), I think about how much I missed my children. What I am totally certain of is that Corporate America is not the place for women with kids. After working in HR, Marketing and IT for over 10 years, I’ve come to the conclusion that women are being forced to choose between their careers and motherhood. The saddest part is that I find that that toughest critiques and obstacles come from WOMEN in the office. This is not to say that all companies out there are unfair to mothers but lets just say that most of them are. And the number of complaints and EEOC filings are on the rise.

Feeling a little scared and a bit frustrated, I got a laugh this morning when I saw this video. So, take notes mommies, a little Cocktail TV and advice on how to do nothing at work and still get paid might just help you when you’ve got other things to do at work (blogging, doctor appointments, parent-teacher phone conferences, interviewing for another job… Shhhhhh).

You know you’re a working mother when you:

1.) Have to call the doctor to schedule an appointment and everyone in the office wants to stand infront of your desk.

2.) When you sit down for an interview and they ask you “so, how many kids did you say you have again?” and “so, will you be able to get to work on time?” (NOT legal dude… not cool)

3.) You’ve gotta leave the office early because your kid is sick and everyone in the office looks at you like you’ve lost your mind. “How could she?”

This is too funny. You know my desk has ordered chaos and I do use the internet since I’m blogging all day. This is too funny. I used to work for a company that wanted all of your time. Once I decided that I wanted to settle down that wasn’t the environment for me. I am glad that I work for a family oriented company and no one looks at me crazy when my little man has a fever and I have leave to take him to the doctor. But even with the flexibility that I have here at the office I still wish I had more and could be accessible to my kids more.

Congratulations Rhea on going the ranks as a work at home mom!! I’ve actually never had a real job because I never wanted to deal with the inflexibility that comes with it.

But I do remember bartending for private parties and having to leave my post to go pump breast milk… of bolting at “last call” when I would forget the pump @ home! LOL… God bless the net!!
