Obama Wins: And the World Celebrates
Even if your candidate didn’t win the election, there is so much to celebrate about where we’ve come from as Americans. We turned out in unprecedented numbers to the polls to express our deep support for our new President-elect, Barack Obama… “Yes We Can”. Yesterday when I wrote about Obama’s grandmother Toot, I thought about my own grandmother, 83, who voted in New York and tears began to fall. My heart skipped a beat as my eldest daughter Destiney began to cry and scream out loud the ‘her’ president won! I loved how great Michelle Obama looked (I’m working on finding out where she got that awesome dress) and she will make a great first lady.
He addressed the nation and the world when he said,
“If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer,”
Obama told more than 100,000 people who gathered for a victory celebration in Chicago’s Grant Park. Obama, 47, swept to victory by promising a change in Washington and I can only hope that we will continue in our efforts to support the president by coming together and working towards one common goal.
Check out the reactions from all around the world. Barack Obama’s step grandmother, Sarah Obama in Kenya celebrates. The children from Obama’s old school in Jakarta, Indonesia, and don’t forget the troops taking time to watch the speech over in Afghanistan. Even Jesse Jackson and Oprah shed a few tears. Check out the the pics below and let get it started people.
Who would have thought that the son of a father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas, could ever be elected the nation’s 44th president Tuesday, breaking the ultimate racial barrier to become the first African American to claim the country’s highest office?
