Mom Jeans Flatter NOBody – Donna Karen’s New line of Jeans
Like most moms, my relationship with denim is somewhat obsessive/compulsive. Although, when I go shopping for them, I loathe trying them on because they are either too tight, stiff, or short. And yet a well-stocked denim department like those at Target, Old Navy, Saks Fifth Avenue and Express (one of my all time favorite stores) makes my palms sweaty with longing. Checkbook please!
After spending the rough equivalient of a Geo Metro finding the perfect pari of jeans, I’m still on the prawl for that special pair that makes me look skinny, never fades and/or shrinks after I wash them. Thank god I’m not alone in my addiction to jeans. If there was ever a doubt that denim is the main staple of the American wardrobe, a stroll through this mall. Every woman, young and old had them on.
The term “mom jeans” was introduced a few years ago as part of hilarious fictitious “Saturday Night Live” commercial with an unforgettable tag line:
“This Mother’s Day, don’t give Mom that bottle of perfume. Give her something that says, ‘I’m not a woman anymore. I’m a mom!’ ”
It poked fun at mothers who wear the matronly jeans that immediately typecast them as being women who’re hopelessly out of touch with fashion trends (at best) and sexually repressed (at worst). No one understands the female form quite like Donna Karan. That’s why I’m excited to announce that she’s adding a line of iconic jeans into her repertoire for spring 2009.
What makes these luxe jeans so special? They’re made by a woman, for a woman in five different silhouettes-
- The Sculpted Bias
- The Sculpted Skinny
- The Sculpted Flare
- The Relaxed City, and
- The Relaxed Beach
Each elegant pair is effortlessly shaped to hug a woman’s curves and is offered in a white, faded, or dark wash to meet the daily needs of our busy lifestyle.
A personal message is sewn inside every pair which shares the Donna Karan philosophy to life and fashion design.
“Embrace life’s every curve with imagination.”
Now for those “Thick Misses” that feel a little left out, not to worry. Check out yesterday’s post for some of the hottest jeans for plus size moms at by clicking here…

Gosh it’s about time. I just had my son 3 months ago and I don’t know what to do with myself. I have decided to revamp my entire wardrobe because I am still wearing my maternity clothes, which by the way are way too big. I’m trying to be a mom that is in fashion. I’m deathly afraid to end up looking like my mom who has no concept of what fashion is. Being pregnant gave me an entirely new shape so I must start from scratch while I continue to lose weight. What is a gal to do. Thanx Donna Karen.
There should be no room in any woman’s closet for any jeans close to resembling “mom jeans”. Jeans are probably the most simplest form of clothing next to socks, but they come with so much complication and confusion for women especially. Part of the biggest challenge for me and a lot of mothers is finding the right jean that flatters my body type. It takes effort and patience. It’s a good thing that Donna Karan is taking a step in the right direction with her line of jeans. I can’t wait to check them out soon.
