Michelle Obama’s Red Dress Kicks off Style Craze

michelledress red Michelle Obamas Red Dress Kicks off Style CrazeLat night I had 36 email messages from my readers asking me to find out where Michelle Obama got her signature red and black dress from. Because of the possive feedback from women over the White House Black Market dress she wore on The View, I decided to located this designer that has become the talk of every stylish mom at The Cocktail Cafe. So here we go…

To celebrate the emotional and historic victory of Barack Obama last night, Mrs. Michelle Obama, our first lady, wore a Narciso Rodriguez dress from the designer’s Spring 2009 collection. Coupled with a black cardigan and kitten heels, added a touch of sparkle with diamond bangles and earrings. Malia and Sasha were adorably coordinated in red and black.

Michelle’s style has impressed on the campaign trail with frugal finds from places like J.Crew, The Gap and H&M with designer threads by designers like Narciso and Thakoon. I like her already.

I just just love that President Obama’s leading ladies were all coordinated and each piece they complimented the entire look. Simply flawless and well put together in my expert opinion.

Now clearly there are a range of opinions from readers about last night’s dress, many of them quite strong. And while admittedly it’s not my favorite outfit, I didn’t feel as negatively as some (and there were only a few). So, for you adamant naysayers, New York Magazine does point out that the Narciso Rodriguez collection the dress stems from was one of the most critically acclaimed of New York Fashion Week.

Just take a look at The Today Show’s great profile on Mrs. Obama, highlighting some of her best style moments and also the influence she’ll bring to the White House.

Presidential historian, Doris Kearns Goodwin, comments:

“Because of the kids, she’s going to be mom-in-chief, that’s her absolute priority. But just the mere fact of her style and her flair, it’s going to make her reminiscent of Jackie [Kennedy] … On the otherhand, this is an extraordinary moment in history. She’s going to want to do something and use that platform for work/family values.”

I think the dress was fine…it’s a refreshing change from a stuffy look…but we already know that’s why it was chosen. The Obama’s are supposed to represent change and a relaxed persona in every way so their fashion has to suit it.

I agree but I’ve gotten mixed reviews about this dress. I really thought that it was very well tailored to her figure and it showcases her sense of style without compromising her authority (Don’t U mess with Mrs. O).
