kandi burruss new housewife of atlanta Interview: Kandi Burrus Talks Beauty, Motherhood, and more “Never count yourself out ladies. There are resources out there to help you”

Kandi Burrus

When I introduced Kandi Burrus to you as the new cast member of Real Housewives of Atlanta, I had no idea that she was going to also be partnering with the lovely Yetta Young and Sharon McGhee for the Pocketbook Monologues tour in Atlanta on the 25th. Please click here for directions, a list of celebrity cast members and ticket information.

After this week’s episode at The Cocktail Cafe Radio Show, I sat down to chat with Kandi Burrus about what it was like being a mom, celebrity, business owner and artist.  Surprisingly, I realized that Kandi is not only funny but she’s really down to earth… and just like me and you. Dealing with issues about how to raise our children, loving ourselves, making time for yourself when there’s no time, and finally fashion and beauty for the mom who still wants to maintain a healthy sense of self and style.

ME: Good night Kandi and thanks so much for joining the girls at The Cocktail Cafe for a little chatter and a whole lot of chatter about your upcoming projects and The Pocketbook Tour.
Kandi: Thanks so much for having me and letting me talk about my performance in the play and can’t wait.

ME: So, I’m really excited to see you back in the public eye again and loving the hair honey. What are you wearing, trying and can’t live without?
Kandi: Now Rhea, my new hair cut was done by my girl Paula Britget from Blendz Hair Salon in Atlanta. As far as relaxers and conditioners I swear by Phyto Hair Collection. And in terms of makeup tips, I happen to have dark circles around my eyes so I love using MAC Touch-up Stick Concealer and the key for me is that it has to have a red undertone. I love lip gloss (hate dark colors) and usually go with Juicy Tubes from Lancome.

ME: I am a MAC addict as well and love their concealers but just got HOOKED on using Maquicomplet Concealer by Lancome in Mocha $27.50.

ME: Now Kandi, I think its so important for my readers, listeners and my audience to know that you are so real. Its nice to hear you speak about your daughter. I can tell the you love her so much and I know that she just loves her mother too.
Kandi: Oh thank you so much for saying that. And you know what? I just love it when Riley says to me ‘I love that you are my mommy’.

ME: Oh my GOD! – That’s so adorable. You sound like you are doing a wonderful job raising her. How has it been being a single mother?
Kandi: Its always hard but I manage and I will always honor myself my continuing to demonstrate what it’s like being a successful woman first. I am engaged but I always try to be an example for my daughter Riley.

ME: What’s your advice to moms everywhere trying to maintain in these tough times?
Kandi: Don’t get so caught up in doing everything and miss out on those moments with your kids. Building and maintaining healthy relationships with your children is vital when it comes to raising happy kids. Never put a man before your children. As a child of a single mom myself, she always made a way for me and my brother who passed a way when I was in high school. And finally, just because you are a parent, don’t count yourself out. Never give up on your dreams and goals in life. It may be harder and it may even take you a little longer but don’t you ever count yourself out. I am a living witness that all things are possible. Single women especially, need as much support as possible and there are so many resources out there.
