Who in the Hell Can I get to Watch these Kids?

mommy needs a babysitter now Who in the Hell Can I get to Watch these Kids?

Where have all the Quality Babysitters Gone?

The Washington Post has been reporting on the shortage of baby sitters in the Washington Metro area. This weekend as I scrambled around looking for a babysitter to watch ALL 3 of my children for Valentine’s Day (aka Virgina Day… Yeah!), I got desperate and started seeking the help of my Facebook community.

After going through all of my friends, family, and professional sitter companies on my blackberry (and YES, I checked with my Twitter buddies too), I couldn’t help but wonder if I was the only one facing this issue.

Mommy Can’t Get a Break Because…

What I realized is that every parent has had a moment where something they must do falls at a time when no one can be found to make it possible for them to do it.  A job interview.  A hospitalized loved one. A moms/girls night out. Alone time with your partner/spouse. And my personal favorite… A boss who doesn’t consider absence for any reason an answer. Finding quality daycare and/or baby sitters is hard.

Not to Worry… Help is on the way right?

Recently, moms and dads have started to create record traffic on sites like Sittercity and sitters.com, looking for someone — whatever the price — to watch their children. Baby sitters are easily found online nowadays, and with time to check references, such sites can be a great resource.

My personal favorite is Mommy Mixers (check here to read my review) because it the company was founded by a mom named Amy Sullivan Cooper due to the shortage of quality sitters.

But can you really trust online babysitter companies?

What is your comfort level with the person who watches your children? And how urgently must you need to be somewhere else in order to compromise those standards even a little?

My comfort level is such that it has been over three years since my husband and I have gone out to dinner alone….
I’ll try to have sympathy for those who have gone a few weeks or a month! lol
