Can a Mom have a break? Some days I want to Run Away

tired mommy comic Can a Mom have a break? Some days I want to Run Away

Some days, well, I’m not going to lie, I just want to walk out the door and run away.

I fantasize that I get into my car and instead of heading to work, I drive to the airport, and fly somewhere warm and tropical island, with a beach, a sexy masseuse, with non-stop gin and tonics or endless glasses of REALLY good Appletinis. Can anyone help me with this? Can anyone help me escape? Really, can you kidnap me?

So, yes, I fantasized this all week long about the perfect getaway.

There are some days that I just don’t want to do anymore laundry, dishes, office work, pretending to like my boss, dinner, blow jobs, picking up toys, AAHHHHHHHH! Let’s not even talk about the husband-less, child-less women at my job who look down on me for leaving early when my kid needs to see the doctor making it into the office just 1 minute after my start time.

And the worst part, my son plucked 7 keys off my laptop (he’s 2.5yrs old and loves computers) when I specifically begged my husband to watch him while I make the kids dinner. The amount of time outs and “I’m going to send you to your rooms” I had to endure this week was ridiculous!

I was actually screaming out loud to God this week. Better Him then the kids I guess. He heard an earful, trust me on this. I screamed some things out to Him last week, that I would not want ANYONE else to hear. Jesus is my homeboy!

It’s been a tough week and even a stylish, trendy, hot, sexy cocktail mom like me gets a little down. I’m thankful for what I have but this I’m a stressed out mom today. Lets hope that Thanksgiving will offer more rest and relaxation… yeah right.

Cocktail anyone?

I blogged about this recently too. When I want to run away and I get to leave the house by myself, I tell my husband I’m “going for cigarettes”. Since I don’t smoke, he gets the idea. Some days I end it with “be back when they’re 18″.

I’m feeling a little better after a girls night out on Saturday with friends from college. It reminded me that I am a person in addition to being a wife, mom, Web Researcher and CEO of household. It also made me appreciate what I DO have. Hoping that feeling last throughout Thanksgiving because the kids will be home 5 days straight and my husband only has Thursday off!

    Hang in there!

Well….Let the choir say AMEN and HALLELUJAH!!!! Supermom, Mompreneur, girlfriend or wife, employee, confidant, counselor…..u name it I wear many other hats as well. A getaway sounds really good to me.

GNO’s (Girls Night Out) are good, but sometimes I need “Solitude.” The sound of my own thoughts, no TV, no children, no man, no phone, JUST ME!!! A glass of WHATEVER!! Just keep it coming! LOL Good Food, Good Music and a comfy bed…..that sounds HOT!!!

    Hey,
Yes, I take a long walk on the beach to get away. GNO’s whats that?
I wish I would do that on occasion. That would be fun.
A margarita would be good right now.

Girl I know the feeling. I blogged about something similar. I so want a night out, girls night out, or me night out, but I’m so afraid to take it. I did have one opportunity for a girls night out, but my friend was in so much pain she couldn’t move. I am way overdue for this. The last time I went out, I went to a comedy show with my husband and friends while in NY for labor day, my sis watched my little one, that was almost 3 months ago, my little one is almost 4 months.

I feel u all on that one. I don’t have a husband but sometimes i want to say i’m out of here. I know some of u don’t know how hard it is to raise kids without a man here. If i didn’t have family help I don’t know if i would still be here.

Now i have a son that is 18 and this is his last year in high school. He is a good child i have never been to the school for him acting up are anything. He plays sports in school and to me and others he is very good at basketball.

I also have a girl that is 11 years old and she is my baby. This one will never leave the house but that’s ok. Shi also plays sports and wants to be like her big brother. She is also a great kid.

What I’m saying is it doesn’t matter if u are married are not. U still can raise good kids.

Don’t know if u all want to read this but that’s my story.

    Thanks Jamie

    Hey there Jamie,

I just LOVE the fact that 1.) your a mother, 2.) you are working it and raising two wonderful children.

This website definitely is not just for married mommies (oh No). It is a celebration of “the woman” behind motherhood, marriage, business and every other title/role we play. I believe that every mom is a working mom and it takes a village 4 sure.

We are women first and although I am married, I enjoy meeting and connecting with women just like you. I find that there is no other site and/or community like this and my goal is to excite and ignite a fire in women to make take time for themselves. Fashion for moms, maternity apparel, tech gadgets, mom advice, events for moms, news and reviews can all be found here.

This is a call to action. My way of expressing how we cry, laugh, share, care, and get a little stressed out also. Lets celebrate this and keep up the wonderful conversation mommies.

And “remember 2 have make time 4 U, and have a cocktail on me!”.

Please check out “More About Me” and some of the other great articles in Mom in the City”

    Thanks so much for that.

I need a good cry that i been holding in for so long. To all the mothers out there married or not married we’re the only ones that will that care of our kids. As much as we want to run a way we will be right back because we will miss the headache that they give us. My grandmother all would always tell us “the grass will not always be greener on the other side”.

    Thanks Jamie

    Gurl,

We all have those fantasies! What saves me is I work really hard to be able to do just that… sometimes its just the time I get alone to work at home when the kids are at school and hubby is at work. Other times its more intentional where I just grab my purse and keys and hang out for the afternoon by myself.

Next week though, Florida for me hunnie ;-)

Girl there are days when slipping out the front door, lying on the street in front of the house and playing Russian Roulette with the cars passing by would be more appealing than spending one more minute listening to the 4 kids scream and holler back and forth at each other over who went into who’s room and took what, only to find out it was right where they left it to begin with!

I have 4 of the most intelligent children (ages 8, 9, 13, and 15) but not one of them has a lick of common sense. Yes ladies that would be book smart, common sense stupid. The funny thing is everyone else tells my husband and me how respectful and well behaved our kids are. Understandable I guess. That’s because they spent all the rest of the time driving us insane.

When I walk in the door from work time-out needs to be called. So I take my self right in my room, close the door, and call time-out. I do have some advantage. My husband does as much around the house and with the kids, if not more, than I do. So he needs that get away also. We often threaten to leave and not come back. Empty promises I’m sure.

I had almost the same experience! My son sat on the printer when he was 2 or 3 years old!!! What is it with boys and computer?

O well! I am laughing too hard!

I wanna run away to! Don’t leave without me! Pick me up or let a sistah know!!! I’m meet you at the train station or bus or plane or car or by foot! Just let me know!!!!!!!

This is too funny and right on POINT!! You voice the things that most moms whisper only to themselves…….Thanks for saying it outloud.

BTW, we’re still The WORLD’s GREATEST MOMS in the WORLD!!!!!
