What’s a Mom to do with the Kids in the City?
This week is especially hectic for me with report card time for Destiney as today is our parent teacher meeting. And finding someone to watch the kids while we head over to her school can be a daunting task. Now, my daughter attends a French Immersion program and I’m always excited when she comes home with a new phrase that I can hardly understand. I pray that she isn’t cursing me out in French, so I downloaded some lessons on iTunes, hoping to keep up with her studies and my vocabulary.
Every Friday, we have family night and this weekend we went to see Madagascar 2. A must see by the way. But I’m always looking for events and programs in the area that serve the entire family, not just the kids. I also crave some form of social interaction with other parents in the city that understand the dynamics of raising children. So, what’s a parent to do in Maryland with the kids? Thank goodness for Jessica and her blog A Parent in Silver Spring who writes:
“Whether you are home all day every day every minute with the little rascals, working part time or full time, a mother or father, married or single, this is a question that you are bound to ask.
I think there are oodles of resources for parents and opportunities to meet other children and families and friends in the Washington, DC area. My goal for is to provide a fun, free and accessible resource for Washington families, especially those good citizens of Silver Spring, Maryland.”
When I first became a mom, this was the question I often asked myself, especially when I became a stay-at-home mom. I missed the social interaction of my peers and often isolated and alone in my struggles in searching for things to do. Jessica not only finds programs and events for the kids but somehow she manages to attend a quite a few of them, and I just love that when my daughter says, “Mommy, I’m bored”, I can head over to Jessica’s blog and find a wealth of choices. Because (as Jessica notes) finding fun things to do with the kids should be the easy part of parenting.
Another one for the blogroll ladies! A Parent in Silver Spring, a fun resource for parents in the Washington DC Metro area. Can’t wait to plan my weekend outings now.
Cheers to you Jessica!

Parenting should be fun; moment with lovely kids should be fun too.
Sadly to see that in my country – Malaysia, children only have fun with their PSP or Gamesboy in hands, parent only enjoy their social life. Outing with children will hardy happen in the majority of the families here. Education system here caused the children are learning under pressure. Learning should be fun, more exploration, creativity and brainstorm. But it’s hardy to get in the schooling time now.
that’s so interesting Ally,
you know what, I would love to know if there are any creative outlets in Malaysia that would provide something for the entire family.
Lets chat more about his because, although I think that education is very important, so is quality, creative expression. I know that I plan on getting the Wii only because my kids love games too and I figured that its the perfect gift that the entire family could enjoy.
What do you think?
